2. Hardware Engineer (Smart Electricity Meters)

Role summary:
Own metering hardware design and validation for single-phase and three-phase meters — Whole Current (WC), LTCT and HTCT variants — including schematic design, multi-layer PCB layout, hardware bring-up, and EVT/DVT/PVT builds.
Key responsibilities:
• Design metrology hardware around energy-measurement AFE/ICs (e.g., Analog Devices ADE7953 for single-phase; ADE7880/ADE9078/ADE9000 for three-phase/power-quality; or equivalent Microchip MCP391x / STPM3x / TI MSP430F67xx). Analog Devices
• Design current-sensing front ends appropriate to variant: shunt, current transformer (CT) and Rogowski coil for WC, LTCT and HTCT designs; voltage sensing via resistive divider; PGA/anti-alias filtering and calibration.
• Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout in Altium Designer (and/or Cadence OrCAD/Allegro, Mentor PADS, KiCad); manage BOM, component selection and DFM/DFT.
• Design metering power supply (SMPS and/or capacitive cap-drop), digital isolation between HV and LV domains, creepage/clearance per IEC 60664-1, and surge/ESD protection.
• Lead hardware bring-up, debug and validation; plan and execute EVT/DVT/PVT builds with EMS vendors including jigs/fixtures/test stations and conformal-coating validation.
• Support regulatory compliance: AS 62052.11/AS 62053 type and accuracy tests, NMI M6-1 pattern approval, EMC/immunity; in India, IS 16444/IS 15959 and CEA technical specifications.
Required technical skills and tools:
• Hands-on energy-meter hardware design with metrology AFE ICs (ADE7xxx/ADE9xxx or equivalent), current sensing (shunt/CT/Rogowski), and mixed-signal analog/digital design.
• EDA tools: Altium Designer (preferred); Cadence OrCAD/Allegro, Mentor PADS, or KiCad; LTspice/PSpice simulation.
• Power-supply design (SMPS, cap-drop), isolation, EMI/EMC mitigation, PCB stack-up, thermal layout and derating.
• Documentation:
schematics, BOMs, Gerbers, test procedures, validation reports.
Qualifications & experience:
B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in ECE/EEE; senior-to-principal years in electronics/meter hardware design.
Domain knowledge (Australian market): AS 62052/62053, NMI M6-1, accuracy classes (0.2S/0.5S/1.0); WC vs LTCT vs HTCT topologies; metering metrology; India IS 16444 Part 1 (WC) and Part 2 (transformer-operated 0.2S/0.5S/1.0S) for team context. Power Line Magazine

DFMEA, signal/power integrity, RF/antenna layout for cellular modules, tamper-detection hardware (magnetic/REVP/neutral), thermal design, conformal coating, IP54/65 enclosure design, prior tenure at a meter OEM.
