Duration: 6 Months

Location: Remote

Timings: Full Time (40 Hours per Week) – 5:30 PM to 2:30 AM IST

Notice Period: Immediate Joiners Only

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Python and FastAPI to build and scale a document-processing backend capable of handling large, complex PDFs and AI-driven classification workflows.

This role focuses on reliability, performance, and system design — building backend services that can process 200+ page documents, integrate with LLMs, and support robust exception handling, auditability, and cost-efficient execution.

A key aspect of this role is designing and working with document taxonomies that drive classification, multi-page document assembly, confidence scoring, and downstream compliance workflows.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8–10 years of strong hands-on experience with Python and FastAPI

• Proven experience with PDF processing libraries such as PyPDF2, pdf2image, or similar

• Experience integrating LLM APIs for document analysis or classification (GPT-4 Vision API preferred)

• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including:

o Cloud Storage

o Firestore

o Cloud Tasks

• Strong understanding of asynchronous job patterns, including:

o Background workers

o Queues

o Retry logic

• Strong systems-thinking approach with focus on:

o Error handling

o Data lineage

o Audit trails

• Experience designing or working with document taxonomies, classification schemas, or structured labeling systems for AI-driven workflows

• Experience with OCR or document-processing systems

• Background in financial services or compliance-oriented projects

• Experience with taxonomy versioning, confidence thresholds, and rules-based validation

• Experience supporting loan-processing workflows by classifying, assembling, and validating borrower documents such as:

o KYC documents

o Income proofs

o Bank statements

o Agreements

This includes implementing taxonomy-driven rules, confidence scoring, and exception handling to enable faster and auditable credit decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services to reliably process large PDFs (200+ pages)

• Implement AI-based document classification using a defined taxonomy and confidence scoring

• Design and maintain document taxonomies that drive classification, grouping, and validation logic

• Support multi-page document assembly based on taxonomy-driven rules and page-level signals

• Build robust exception detection and recovery mechanisms, including “needs review” and fallback workflows

• Implement audit trails and data lineage, including taxonomy versioning and classification rationale

• Optimize system performance and architecture to control infrastructure and AI inference costs

• A backend engineer who thinks in terms of systems, not just endpoints

• Strong ownership mindset for handling failure modes, edge cases, and long-running workflows

• Ability to translate ambiguous document inputs into structured, explainable, and auditable outputs

• Comfortable working in a document-heavy, AI-assisted backend environment
